Outlook 2002

IMPORTANT! Please no not change your account information or server information to reflect the those you see in the screen shots. They are simply a visual tool to help you find the check box in your email program to turn on SMTP authentication. Simply follow the step by step instructions to turn on SMTP authentication.

To configure Outlook 2002 for Authentication

1. Open Outlook 2002
2. Depending on your version follow the steps here or jump ahead to older version
3. Click the Tools menu, and select Email Accounts...
4. Select View or change an existing email account

5. Highlight your email account and click Change

6. Click the button that says More Settings…

7. Click the tab that says Outgoing Server


8. Check the box that says My Outgoing server (SMTP) requires Authentication

9. Click on the Advanced tab
10. Change the Outgoing SMTP port from 25 to 587
11. Click OK. You're done! Click Next window and then click Finish you are now ready to start sending mail.

 

To configure Outlook 2002 Older Version for Authentication

1. Open Outlook 2002
2. Click on the Tools Menu
3. Select Accounts
4. Click on the Mail Tab
5. Select your email address and click properties
6. Click on the Servers Tab

7. Put a checkmark in the My server requires authentication box
8. Click on the Advanced TAB and change the SMTP port from 25 to 587.
8. Click OK, you can now close any windows still open on your computer to return to your email program.
9. You are now ready to send emails again
